As we charge into the New Year, the biggest thing to happen in the Australian Domain landscape since 2002 is just around the corner;
the .au Direct is finally launching on 24th March 2022!

With more and more Aussies forging their online presence, this is an exciting time as we finally join many other countries that already have their two-character TLDs available (.uk, .us etc).

What does this mean for existing .au domain registrants?

Firstly, absolutely NOTHING changes with your existing .au domains; these will continue business as usual.

Secondly, so you don’t have to make a mad scramble on the launch date
(like seagulls to a hot chip),
ALL exact matches of currently registered .au domains (.com.au.org.au.id.au, etc.) will be put on Priority Hold
from 24th of March 2022 until 20th of September 2022 for the
Priority Allocation Process.

This Priority Hold period is to give all existing .au domain registrants the opportunity to apply for the exact match of their current domain with the new .au direct domain extension before it becomes available to the general public.

auDA have created a great infographic on the step-by-step process on how to get your .au direct matched domain.
