This guide explains what nameservers are and how to update them for your domain.

What Are Nameservers?

Nameservers tell your domain where your website and email are hosted.

When you update nameservers, you are telling the internet which server should handle your domain.

Example

Your hosting provider may give you nameservers like:

  • ns1.yourhost.com
  • ns2.yourhost.com

When Do You Need to Change Nameservers?

  • When connecting your domain to your hosting
  • When moving your website to a new provider
  • When instructed by support

Important Note

Nameservers are changed at your domain registrar, NOT inside AdminBolt.

Step 1: Log Into Your Domain Registrar

This is where you purchased your domain (e.g. GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.).

Step 2: Find Nameserver Settings

  • Look for "DNS" or "Nameservers"
  • Select the option to change nameservers

  • Save changes

Step 4: Wait for Propagation

  • Changes can take up to 24 hours
  • Often updates within a few hours

Common Issues

Website Not Working After Change

  • Double-check nameserver spelling

Email Not Working

  • DNS records may not be set up yet
  • Contact support if unsure

Important Notes

  • Nameserver changes affect your entire domain
  • Incorrect settings can take your website offline
